Swimming in La Manga and Cabo de Palos
The most accessible water sport of all is swimming. We have the perfect setting for all ages to enjoy this activity, in the warm, calm blue waters of the Mar Menor inland sea. This saltwater lake has an average yearly temperature of 17C, although it can reach as high as 30 degrees in the height of summer. The Mediterranean side of the La Manga strip is cooler and has large breakers and more breezes. Whichever side visitors choose, watersports of all types are available and can be a memorable part of any vacation to the region.

Hiking and walking in the La Manga area
A great place to walk is the Calblanque Nature Reserve. This regional park received protected status in 1987 and received classification as a nature reserve in 1992. The walking area includes lovely beaches, hills, cliffs and salt flats. For those who enjoy leisurely waterside walks, Calblanque has amazing beaches. The nature reserve offers visitors the opportunity to see various forms of wildlife and even has an area designated for camping.

North of Calblanque Nature Reserve is the Mar Menor and a salt lake that provides a great background for easy walking in a peaceful environment. The coastal region of La Manga is great for both slow-paced, contemplative walks and athletic excursions that test your endurance. This area has a national trail that runs behind a resort complex. The trail goes through the white, sandy cove areas that dot the coastal expanse.

Much of the coastline in this region is not available for development due to its protected status. For walkers and hikers, it offers an unadulterated natural habitat to explore. This area of Spain has a climate that allows for year-round walking. In the summer, you can enjoy comfortable excursions on foot as you head up to higher and cooler elevations to escape the heat.

Boat trips, Charters and watersports are available here and also from the many marinas surrounding the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean coast.

Jet-skiing in La Manga

In Spain, the law states that if you are to drive a Jet Ski you must have a licence. If you don't have a licence, there are centres in La Manga that not only hire out jet skis but will teach you and provide tests to obtain a licence. It is not cheap but these centres are governed by a strict body that makes sure the people who are given licences are trained to the highest level.

Diving La Manga and Cabo de Palos
The Northern coastline of the Murcia region (from San Pedro del Pinatar to Cabo de Palos), is a favourite with divers. It has been declared one of the five ZEPM zones (Specially Protected Zones) along the Spanish part of the Mediterranean coast, due to the exceptionally rich seabeds. Thanks to the very mild climate, it is possible to dive in this area all year round. Just offshore from the port of Cabo de Palos is the "Islas Hormigas", a Diving area considered by the Cousteau Foundation to be the best seabed in the whole Mediterranean. This reserve includes a series of shallows, shaped like an underwater mountain range, which are between 3 and 50 metres deep.

Mud therapy and Spa treatment in La Manga and the Mar Menor

The Mar Menor offers the largest outdoor mud therapy area in Europe. The mud flats are found in several locations. The best known are "Las Charcas de las Salinas" in Lo Pagán and El Ciervo island at km3 of La Manga strip. The mud increases body absorption of minerals and also stimulates healing and regeneration, to help with many bone-related problems. It is recommended for skin problems, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, throat infections and all-round general recuperation from illness.

Golf in La Manga and the Murcia region

The climate in Murcia is perfect for Golf, especially in Spring and Autumn. There are currently 19 Golf courses in the region of Murcia, with more under construction. Some of the best are within a short drive of La Manga. We recommend the following: Roda, La Serena, Mar Menor, Lo Romero, Hacienda Del Alamo, Altorreal, Vistabella, Corvera and of course, the three fabulous courses at La Manga Club (although they are by far the most expensive!) The best deals are available from the Golf clubs direct, particularly in Summer, when there are many special offers of "twilight Golf". An excellent source of information on Golf in Murcia is at the website of Club Murcia: www.clubmurcia.com
